Mann Chair appointment - Dr. Peter Powers

Dr. Peter Powers' four-year appointment will begin on August 16, 2010, following Dr. Bob Brecha's completion this spring of his term in the position. Dr. Powers will be installed formally in the position at a ceremony to be held in the 2010-11 academic year.
Dr. Peter Powers’ research in electro-optics has received notable recognition, through scholarly publications, patents and external funding, and major faculty awards for scholarship at both the college and the university levels. Dr. Powers is highly respected for his intellectual facility and knowledge, as well as for his readiness to collaborate with faculty members and students. As the next Mann Chair, he will do much to foster increased research capacity, interdisciplinary collaboration, and visibility across the natural sciences division and in concert with other scientific research centers on- and off-campus.
